The shortfilm HEXENJAGD was the master thesis of my Communication Design studies.
Planning started in late summer 2017.

I did a lot of research on the topic of european witch-hunts between 1450 to 1750 and read the "Malleus Maleficarum", the notorious book that can be seen as one of the fundamentals of witch-hunts.
The topic "witch-hunts" seems to be a far-away dark time in european history on first sight, but the essential problem of accusing a certrain group of people to be responsible for bad things happening (when it obviously isn´t the case), is actually still up-to-date.
I wanted to tell a story set in the past but also link it to the present.
After the research phase I wrote a story on the topic and sketched a first storyboard.
When the story was at a point I was happy with I started organizing.
I had to find actors (lead actress is Marilena Lippmann http://marilena-lippmann.com/), assistants, musicians for the soundtrack, a sounddesigner and I had to prepare a lot of props, costumes and had to plan the shooting days. Location scouting for the forest scenes was done in Nußloch forest.

We had 4 main shooting days and many additional smaller shooting days from March to April 2018. We were lucky spring was starting quite late this year. This way we still had this eerie look to the forest that I desired.
Post Production had to happen fast. The shortfilm had to be finished by the end of june 2018 for my master thesis presentation. So my working days in front of the computer were really long.
The cutting was done in Adobe premiere, color grading in DaVinci Resolve and VFX in Adobe After Effects.

3D animation was done by Tobias Eckerlin.
