It is quite the challenge to explain something complex in the most easy and understandable way. As a designer at the Fraunhofer IPA Project Group in Mannheim I work on pitches and presentations to transmit the essential messages.
First I make a concept on how to best present the topic. When the concept is done, simple vector graphics/icons are a good tool for presentations. The examples here, I designed and animated for a pitch to explain the "Chronometer", a tube insertion to track the time it takes until a biological probe gets frozen.
